EIM’s Print Journalism Course receives huge response: (Saturday May 29)

EIM, in collaboration with The Times of India, launched on Saturday May 29 a 8-week modular course titled ‘Print Journalism – Writing for Effect’ for aspiring journalists or those in any way interested in journalistic writing.

The Course has received an extremely positive response – a total 34 participants have registered for this course. Their profiles cut across a wide cross-section of age groups, academic backgrounds, professional occupations and general interests.

Inaugurating the Course, Prof. B N Chakraborty, EIM Trustee said that with changing societal norms, the demand for responsible journalism is now at its highest. "Like B-Schools, J-Schools are attempting to create a bright pool of journalists with appropriate competencies", he said. "This specialized Course launched by EIM is our effort in this direction", he told the participants.

Prof. Pradip Dutta – Faculty, Communication Area, EIM is the Course Coordinator; he also took the first session titled "The Language of Print Journalism"

The faculty for this course is as diverse as eminent. Renowned journalists, editors and feature writers have most willingly agreed to teach and share their expertise with participants. Among those contributing to the course are

  • Prof. Arup Ratan Acharjee, Dept of Journalism & Mass Communication, SA Jaipuria College Kolkata;
  • Mr. Pradeep Gooptu, Head, Corporate Communication, CESC Ltd and formerly with Economic Times and as Resident Editor of Business Standard;
  • Mr. Suman Chattopadhyay, formerly with ABP, Kolkata TV and now Editor, ‘Ekdin’;
  • Mr. Kishore Bhimani, Senior Journalist, TV personality and Professor of Media Science;
  • Mr. Sudipt Dutta, eminent journalist and author, formerly with Business India;
  • Mr. Ambar Singh Roy, GM Corporate Communication, Tata Steel and formerly with Economic Times and Hindu Buisness Line;
  • Mr. Bob Roy, Editor (East), Times of India

Topics being covered include Techniques of Writing & Editing, Business News Writing; Art of Political News Reporting; Structuring Feature Articles; Sports Journalism and Disseminating Corporate News,

Reporting the inauguration in detail, TOI in its May 31 edition said: "there was heightened enthusiasm among participants for this Course".

Classes will be held for three hours, once a week, for 8 weeks till July 17.

EIM - Chulalongkorn Student Exchange 2010: (Jan 21 – 27)

This year, as a part of EIM’s on going annual exposure programme with Chulalongkorn University of Thailand, twenty one of our 4th semester students are proceeding to Bangkok on January 21. EIM wishes the participants a rewarding visit whereby they get a good opportunity to mix, interact and learn from their counterparts, obtain first hand knowledge about their academic activities, acquire some understanding of the country’s business processes and more importantly, get an insight into their rich culture and strong work ethics.

EIM - UC Student Exchange 2010: (Jan 4 – 20)

On the now four year running exchange program with the Business School of the University of Cincinnati (UC), USA, EIM is pleased that for a change, this year, ten of their students, accompanied by two eminent professors were at EIM on a fortnights visit. Director Mr. Amit Sengupta in his welcome address said "I hope you will enjoy your academic and social interaction with our students, set up long lasting friendships and also derive learning and insights from the various activities we have lined up for you in Kolkata ,Haldia , Jamshedpur and Delhi".

The visiting students’ agenda include:

  • Participation in the EIM-UC 3 day joint management game based on a HBR case study.
  • Taking part in workshops, debates, student interface and a number of academic sessions.
  • Attending panel discussions on the state of Indian economy and the challenges and opportunities of doing business in India ,
  • Meeting functional managers of various companies, and
  • Obtaining first hand exposure to some of our country’s industrial, infrastructure and NGO projects

In between they will for sure , be given the opportunity to get a glimpse of what India, as a rapidly expanding economy and a diverse, caring and beautiful country, has to offer.
